I had to have help from my sponsor when I started this journey. He kept telling me to continue to work the 3rd step before attempting step 4. He told me if my insecurity had me believing I wasn't getting through to God, to keep repeating the 3rd Step Prayer, on my knees, voicing it without reservation, just like it says in the Big Book. He told me my silent prayers, at that time, didn't get off the floor. He told me I had too many interruptive thoughts coming at me at that time, to be effective in silent prayer. He told me to continue to pray for willingness and strength to do Step 4. He told me it wasn't supposed to be a walk in the park. He told me I would know when to proceed. He was right. That's what Sponsors do. If I can do it, you can do it. I'm glad you are here. Keep coming back!
