This is a special day my friend
One year without a drink,
Did you ever think this day would come?
Did anybody ever think?
Do you remember when you walked in here?
So afraid and full of fear,
Shame engulfed your every thought
Your eyes were full of tears.
You listened so intently
For the slightest ray of hope,
But your lips would crack a smile
When someone told a joke
You raised your hand and said your name
When they asked for anyone new,
It's one of the hardest things we do
Because you know we're all looking at you.
You took the advice that we shared about
Raised your hand to clean the room,
We could tell by the way that you volunteered
You might be done living that life of doom.
You got a sponsor and worked the steps
Then began to give it away,
That was the beginning of a life long journey
But this is your day today.
Happy Birthday my friend from me to you
It's been one hell of a ride,
And I have faith there will be many more
Staying Sober One day at a time...
