Ebby Thacher was instrumental in starting AA, as we know from Bill's story. Why couldn't Ebby stay sober? Bill always treated Ebby with the utmost respect and a sense of gratitude and helped him throughout his life and his relapses into drinking. It's hard to understand why Ebby went back to drinking and Bill and Bob stayed sober.
