Gratitude.

Postby Red A. » Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:06 am

I'm a strong believer in gratitude lists. You clicked on this thread so you owe me a ten item gratitude list. To make it interesting I'll match every list of ten with my own list of ten. Enter as many times as you like. Yeah I'm throwing down the gauntlet. Gratitude lists to the death. Go!

Oh boy, a challenge! Let the gratitude begin!

Today, I am grateful for:

1. Waking up this morning & not "coming to".

2. Prayer & a conscious contact with the God of my understanding.

3. Being able to forgive myself & others & starting fresh every day.

4. The love & respect of my children & grandchildren.

5. Being employed & able to give an honest day's work & be of service.

6. Being able to feel my feelings & not have to run away from them & can use them to grow & change & help someone with the same feelings.

7. This beautiful world, & that I can enjoy & share it sober.

8. Laughter & fun & silliness & friends & fellowship ( is that 5 in 1? Wow! :o )

9. All 5 senses, & common & uncommon sense. ( 7! )

10. AA, which enabled me to receive these blessings & gave me the tools to live a new life & the opportunity to pass it on.

11. At the end of the day I fall asleep in peace, not "pass out".

Thank you for letting me cheat!  (and this list is just for now! )

1. My eyes
2. My ears
3. My arms
4. My legs

(those 4 things are good things to have - sometimes I take them for granted - but they let me get into action)

5. The second step
6. The third step
7. The rest of the steps
8. A perfected soul through which my Higher Power directs my actions
9. The gift of communication with my Higher Power (Prayer and Meditation)
10. Discipline

I'm with you Red. That's just a beginning. I don't know if there's a "priority" order or anything like that.

Now I know these things might sound "canned" or "rote answers." But I'm not trying to impress anyone, or saying I'm the "perfect AA". But what I'm saying in this "lil ol' round" of 10 - these are the things that let me experience the miracles that bloom out of sobriety, starting from the inside. They say serenity is an "inside job" and I agree. These are positive things that I see and use each day that gave me the beginnings of a life worth living.

Black cherry. I make it with splenda sweetner. It's my summer cool down drink.
