A Sober Christmas Carol

Postby sunlight » Thu Dec 24, 2009 4:53 pm

Someone stole my gloves at Walmart
But I really didn't care
(They must need them more than I do)
'Cuz there's Christmas in the air.

Said he'd take me to the movies
He forgot;we didn't go
Wasn't surprised I didn't mind
It's Christmas time you know.

He tried to take me out to eat
Then cussed at me left and right
But I could still smile serenely
'Cuz tonight's a holy night.

Sure don't have a lot of money
Don't have a sweetheart to hold
Don't own designer anything
Yet have riches beyond gold.

His light shines brightly in my heart
From the sober day I was born
It burns to pass the torch and share
Like the star on that Christmas morn.

(dedicated to my ex, who is dying from the malady of alcoholism.)

Thank you for sharing that poem. It really touched me deep down in my soul and in my memories of my past, too. I thank God, for redemption, and sobriety, and the ability to make amends.

Merry Christmas.
