A guy was chatting with his sponsor and told him that he was frightened about beginning a sober relationship. He felt a lot of anxiety and didn't know how to start a conversation.
His sponsor told him to take it easy and if he got stuck for something to talk about, to ask the woman a question about food, her family or philosophy as an icebreaker.
Months later, the guy was having a conversation with a woman he had an interest in, remembering what his sponsor had told him to ask questions about.
"Do you like spaghetti," he asked. "No," the woman said. A long silence ensued. Finally the guy broke the uncomfortable quiet with another question. "Do you have a brother?" Again, the answer was a short one-word answer, "No".
Now the guy was really nervous, but remembered the third question his sponsor had suggested. He smiled widely and asked the woman, "Well, if you did have a brother, would he like spaghetti?"
