Levels of Sobriety
There are different levels of sobriety
Just like there are different levels of life,
I guess it depends on how bad you are hurting
That equals the willingness to fight.
Some of us think that if we just don't drink
The thought of osmosis will guide us through,
The wreckage of past that we had caused
And the forgiveness we seek from you.
There are many lost souls that just can't do
The steps that make us search deep inside,
And talk about the pain that we had caused
With the willingness it takes to confide.
Some of us do just enough to get by
It's enough just to relieve the pain,
After living a life in the depths of hell
It's relief just to breathe again.
Some of us jump in and go as fast as we can
Cleaning out our closet is the only way,
Refusing to ride the rollercoaster of misery
We'll do what it takes not to drink today.
Some of us think that we know what's best
But eventually they just disappear,
They just weren't able to understand
It was our best thinking that got us here.
I choose the level of my sobriety
Every morning when I get on my knees,
I ask for guidance in the path I walk
Dear God would you guide me please.
