I want to warn you all a little about myself.
I am blunt and do not ### foot around this disease.
I am a firm believer this is a genetic disease that once that switch is turned on it is on forever.
I will put you on the spot if I feel you need to be put on it.
I will tell you things you may not want to hear too.
I was famous for it in treatment and aftercare when I went through it.
I will not tell you that it will be easy.
I will tell you what you have to look forward too. The Good and the Bad.
If you want someone to coddle you do not come to me.
I will support you in any way I can.
I can be your best friend and worst critic all at once.
But I will tell it like it is using my own experience.
I want nothing more than to help YOU take this Head On.
And by doing so YOU will help ME.
Make no mistake in that.

Like they say...
Take what ya need and leave the rest.

Don't say I haven't warned you.

Now lets deal with this disease and kick its arse!!!!

For me, AA is a plan to change the way I think about everything. My old way of thinking got me drunk. Only God knows what my new way of thinking will ultimately be. I trust God that not drinking will be a part of my new way of thinking.

Not drinking was my first step into being able to get rid of my drinking-thinking -- through taking the Steps, and continuing to take 10, 11, & 12, my thinking changed and continues to change, daily. It keeps my head so that my life can be happy, joyous and free -- while sober.

We, of Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book. (Forward to the First Edition, Big Book.)

Well...I see we have one disease that has many personalities. And...I must agree...too many I's and no WE's leave too much room for selfishness to take its hold again. Thankfully...the steps are there to break us out of this and bring the WE fully back into the picture. It's cool to have a strong personality...when it doesn't get in the way of our recovery. And when the PSYCHIC CHANGE begins to happen...the I's will start to thin and the WE's will truly begin.

BrianN, yeah--I'm reminded of a strong woman in a meeting who shared she kept saying "I admitted I am powerless over alcohol..." Tx leader: what? Woman: "I admit I am powerless over alcohol...." Tx leader: WHAT? "I am... oh. Um. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol--...."

I like that story. It's something I would do.

Sadly the term ‘powerless’ has now been turned on its head as an excuse for not doing very much with our recoveries. The folks who like nothing better than a good moan at meetings just keeping saying they’re powerless over almost everything in life so why bother, which is a load of bull! The BB only says we are powerless over booze nothing more.

God’s power is not a power of fear and timidity it is the power to change things for the better and that includes us!
