Merry Christmas Eve All.

Wanted to express to all what a joy it is to be alive this evening.
I am sure I wouldn't be if it wasn't for AA and the mostly the people in it.
I can recall (mostly anyway) in the past I would be passed out on the floor by now.
Good riddens to those days and I don't miss it in the slightest.
I can finally enjoy this night without worrying if I will have enough juice to make it through Christmas itself.
And that I can finally enjoy the time with my family and loved ones.

Merry Christmas to all.

Indeed.. Merry christmas and have a safe , prosperous and sober new year...

I am sitting here counting the blessings this morning ...

My first sober christmas in 3 decades !!!! I am looking forward to having the family coming here for christmas dinner .. not hung over or stressed about getting everything ready.....really at peace...

Merry Christmas everybody! I had a pretty good day today. Christmas eve was hell though, honestly. I wanted to drink so bad. I was up and down and all over the board. Finally my drunk mother told me I needed to go to a meeting. There was an alcathon and I went for about 2 hours. I was so wanting to drink. I was whining to myself about how I'm not normal and can't have a drink on Christmas eve like normal people. Then I thought it through and thought wtf good is A drink? I never have A drink. A drink doesn't even give me a buzz and I just get drunk. So I decided that A drink wasn't the answer and I'm still sober. Whew! Thank God today was low key and I'm not having the cravings. It was nice to wake up before the kids this year. I started the coffee, started the Christmas music and made cinnamon rolls. I wasn't hungover and that was a real Christmas miracle!

Excellent PeaceJoy!!
It does get easier with time.
Habits are hard to break, even if they are once a year habits.
But you proved to yourself that habits can be controlled by YOU.
And you did the right thing by thinking it out.
Surprisingly your Mother gave you great advice.

I find when the situation comes up like you were in the best thing is to remove yourself from the situation and think it out.
What are the consequences?
What will happen -Long Term- if you react on your trigger?
What will you be throwing away if you do?

Once again Great Job.
