Congratulations - that is an honor! One one suggestion: if you do not have a sponsor yourself, get one! Oh, and another ( of course) If in doubt, ask your sponsor what he/she would do? When I was asked to sponsor, she suggested that I schedule time to read the BB with this gal who wanted me to sponsor.

In keeping with the 7th tradition... all AA members, especially sponsees, should be self supporting. I learned that one really fast Good luck..................Kay

One of the things that I find extremely helpful in sponsoring newcomers is to give them the AA Pamphlet: Questions and Answers about Sponsorship. After they read it, I sit down with them and discuss it. This is especially helpful to them in understanding what they can expect. Another thing that I have them do initially is to call me every day, this really helps to get to know them and to help them pick up the phone. I usually meet with them once a week to just talk or to work the steps.
You are in for the experience of a lifetime. I absolutely love sponsorship.

I like to use the outline in Chapter 7, Working With Others, in the Big Book. It gives me simple and precise instructions on what I should say to them, when to say it, what to have them read, and what to do next.
Kind of like "Sponsoring by the numbers... or following the dotted line" we end up doing what we are supposed to be doing, and we both get better!

Rich... congrats and good luck! Keep the rent high and be sure to collect first, if you do decide to rent!!! Rusty gives them free rent and serves them deal-a-meals... so that he can eat Cheetos when he watches Oprah!

All's well, We are doing Step 3 tomorrow. In the meantime I have found a newcomer and brought him along on Monday this week- here in Hong Kong's Borrett Rd he's on his 3rd day and has asked me to sponsor him so that makes two This has come at a perfect time since I felt that some character defects had begun to sprout and I needed an overhaul... My HP works in mysterious ways. All the best from Hong Kong rich

Paneristi, Congratulations! Looks as though you are now living Chapter 11, Vision For You! If you haven't read Chapter 11, in a while, you might want to check it out. I'm sure it will bring smiles and cheer to your heart! Keep it up! Pretty soon, you'll be sponsoring so many people in Hong Kong, that you can have a big speaker meeting, and I'll come over and be the speaker for you! Best to you... Dallas
