My story....

REPRIEVE

Looking back through these eyes

Childhood dreams reality lies

People and places always the same

Smoking and drinking part of the façade

Why was mommy falling?

Mommy couldn’t stand up

Daddy had to hold her

Go back to bed yelling at us

Morning after the anger raged on

Mommy was crying and Daddy was gone

Brother, sister why? A little boy asked.

Don’t worry things will get better.

It’s a little argument it won’t last.

Sometime later this teenager could see

People and places coming together fast

A familiar stage motives and scenery

On goes the show

The character I portray

Resembles my parents in a peculiar way

Ignoring my God and all of his will

For God was to blame for all of my ills

Resenting and hating the only will for me

Blinded by ignorance and one way for relief

Drowning my sorrows with bottles of apathy

Years and years the battle raged on

How many people and relations had I harmed

Endless destruction followed this young man

‘Til the day of reckoning was at hand

Surrender to God I saw the light

Confused and still bitter

I ended this fight

Came to the halls broken and pained

Learned how to forgive and start living again

The demons of my past are no longer

Living in the now God’s will shall keep me sober.

peace
