Step 11: Prayer & Meditation
by Dallas » Fri May 26, 2006 5:55 pm
"Lord, make me a channel of thy peace - that where there is hatred, I may bring love - that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness - that where there is discord, I may bring harmony - that where there is error, I may bring truth - that where there is doubt, I may bring faith - that where there is despair, I may bring hope - that where there are shadows, I may bring light - that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted - to understand, than to be understood - to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life. Amenâ€

I love this prayer too - Some of those Catholic guys...some really got their stuff together. I'm glad that we alcoholics are loved by so many of "God's kids" whatever their faith or beliefs.

Another 11th step prayer:
Higher Power, as I understand You,
I pray to keep my connection with You
open & clear from the confusion of daily life.
Through my prayers & meditation I ask especially for
freedom from self-will, rationalization & wishful thinking.
I pray for the guidance of correct thought & positive action.
Your will, Higher Power, not mine, be done.

We talked about the Step 11 prayer last night.
My morning starts with:
THANK You, Father for this day. It's going to be a good one.
I can tell because You made it. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
I can do anything I want to with it !
What I want is to give it back to you. Do with it as You will and give it back to me when You're done.
All I ask is that you grant me Your wisdom and knowledge of Your will so I don't work against You.
'Cuz You know I will if I'm not sure.
I can't wait to see how You make it work out. It's always amazing how You discipline me with blessings. How do You do that ????
Really, Lord ... You love me WAY too much. Thank You, thank You, thank You!
Amen
Love,
Tim-one

Shoot, Julie, we pray the step 3 prayer at every meeting. The serenity prayer.
In step 3 we only DECIDE to turn our wills over. In step 11, we do it.
Hey, it's an every day renewal thing to me. I know I'm likely to change my mind over night. Have to redo it every morning. Besides, I love doin it.
I tell my wife I love her every morning, too, just in case she thinks I changed my mind.
Just keep prayin whatever you need to. God's on your side.
Love,
Tim-one

Well thanx, Tim-one! Are you trying to send me some kind of subliminal message here?
Just kidding, I read your profile and saw the subliminal advertising there.
Welcome to the board in case I haven't said that already! It's great to have you here to share your experience, strength, and hope with us!
Sincerely,
Julie

Thanks, Julie. I'm finding out I'm actually getting some o'that stuff ... experience, strength, and hope. COOL ! 'Bout time, Lord.
What a paranoid thing to think! Subliminal? Hahahahaha .. if you have to wonder, I must be good at it.
"Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you."
My favorite prayer:
THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU !
(ad infinitum)
Love,
Tim-one

Haha, Tim-one...
I hear there is a paranoid anonymous around here but they're afraid to tell anyone where the meeting is!
Saying thank you to my Higher Power is a great way for me to start the day. He has bestowed many a blessing in my life, sobriety being the number one, and it helps me to start the day off with an attitude of gratitude.
Thank you HP for bringing Tim-one our way..another blessing!
