Text Vanishing When Posting To The Forum?
Have you experienced working on a really long Post for the forum, and then by the time you click the submit key... it vanishes because you were timed out?
We get so many hits on Step12.com, that the web server and software is set to “time out” and “log out” a user if they wait too long before being active on the site. This is both a security precaution for you, for us, and it helps save web server resources. Also, your ISP may time you out, if you pause too long without being active on the site. They do the same thing that we do, for the same reasons.
Here is the Solution
It does me.
Here's three solutions I use to prevent the vanishing text…. When I’ve spent a long time writing my post. .
Solution 1. It it’s a long message, post or reply, I'll write my message in a word processor or text editor. Save it, and then post it into the Message Body Section of the posting form right after I log in. It gives me a chance to look it over before posting, and to run a spell check on it.
Solution 2. When I don't do it like #1 above: there is a different thing I do. You must do this “before” you click the Preview or Submit button!
I write the long and timely message in the form section. Then, I put my cursor in the Message Body section of the form, at the top of where I started typing. Then, I click down on my mouse and drag it to the bottom of what I've typed to select it.
Then, I use the keyboard keys Ctl key, and C key, ... this copies the text into temporary clipboard memory on my PC.
Then, if I get logged out and everything vanishes... when I click the Submit Button, I log back in and start all over... except, when I get to the message body section of the form. (Where I spent a long time writing my message!)
Then, I use the Ctl key and the V key of the keyboard to paste my saved text back into the form and then click the submit.
#3. Another solution option to #2 above, is follow all those instructions, such as:
Select the text by putting your mouse cursor at the top of the Message Body section of the Posting form. Click and drag your mouse to select all the text in the message body section.
With the text selected, look up at the top left menu for the word "Edit", click Edit, then drop down to the word "Copy" ... and select “Copy” …that saves a copy of your typed message to your PC clipboard.
Be sure to do this before you click the submit button.
Then, if you were timed out, and the text vanishes and you get the "Log In" screen... start over, to get to the Posting form again.
Then, put your Cursor in the Message Body section of the form, and click (you'll probably see the cursor blinking)
Then, take your mouse and point to the word "Edit" at the very top left section of your monitor and click the work Edit. Then, drop down to the word "Paste" ... and this will paste your saved text into the form...
Then click your submit button and you won't lose your Post.
Hope that helps!
